About Building Impact Partners:
We are a philanthropy advising firm that works with changemakers who want to solve big challenges — and move people, communities, and society forward for good. With expertise spanning philanthropy advising, social innovation, and advocacy, our team has the insights, imagination, and determination to build effective solutions that endure. We believe philanthropy can be an engine for systems change. That’s why we work with and across the philanthropic community to build the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to create a more just and equitable world.
As a mission-driven organization, we are intentional about attracting diverse, values-aligned talent that is passionate about transforming philanthropy. We look to hire self-starters and provide the support and runway they need to chart their career paths within our organization or beyond. We are committed to being a high-performing team that delivers value to our clients, partners, and the field. We work closely together to strategize and develop solutions that will drive long-term impact, and every team member plays an integral role in our firm’s success. We partner with clients addressing a wide range of complex societal challenges, each bringing unique perspectives and priorities. Adaptability, entrepreneurialism, and openness to diverse viewpoints are essential to success in our organization.
The Role:
At Building Impact Partners, “business development” is more than closing deals. We’re hiring a strategic, collaborative, and relationship-oriented Director of Marketing & Business Development to lead our integrated marketing and sales strategy. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal role in expanding our impact and doubling our revenue in alignment with our 10-year vision; specifically, you will sharpen our brand story and pitch, refine our pricing strategy, define our ideal client(s), and build the pathways to reach them. Your work will directly shape how we talk about our work, show up in the field, and move closer to realizing our vision for systems-changing philanthropy.
Reporting to the firm’s COO, this role sits on the Leadership Team and connects all aspects of business development—from brand and marketing efforts to proposals and closing new work. You’ll manage four Strategic Support Leads (SSLs) who support Partners in their outreach efforts (including 1:1 meetings, conferences, speaking engagements, writing and thought leadership, and proposal development) to ensure alignment and maximize growth. You’ll make sure that everyone contributing to business development is working in a coordinated, strategic, and aligned way.
This is a remote role that can be performed anywhere in the Continental US. You will travel 6-8 times a year for team meetings and conferences. You must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
What You’ll Do:
Lead Marketing & Brand Strategy to Spark Growth
- Develop and oversee a marketing and communications strategy that drives visibility and revenue.
- Shape messaging, materials, and thought leadership that reflect our ethos and offerings.
- Align events, writing, and public speaking to support lead generation and relationship-building.
- Vet, onboard, and manage vendors/consultants in support of media, collateral, and other marketing needs.
- Ensure our voice and brand show up clearly and consistently across platforms.
Shape Firmwide Business Development (BD) Strategy
- Partner with firm leadership to build and implement a BD strategy grounded in our mission, values, and 10-year vision and revenue goals.
- Coach and provide thought partnership to all those involved in BD—Partners, SSLs, and others—on content, strategy, and workflows.
- Set clear growth priorities and rhythms for reviewing progress and staying aligned and accountable.
- Create clarity on how we pursue opportunities, what we say yes to, and how we communicate our value.
Build and Manage a Strategic Sales Pipeline
- Work with our business development leads to hone our target markets and ideal client profiles, and proactively identify business development opportunities.
- Build and manage pipeline strategy and tools, ensuring accurate tracking, shared understanding, and clear roles.
- Set benchmarks and lead regular pipeline reviews to assess progress, surface insights, and recalibrate focus.
- Establish shared practices for lead cultivation, follow-up, and internal handoffs.
Manage and Grow a High-Impact Business Development Support Team
- Lead and coach four Strategic Support Leads (SSLs) to maximize their collective impact.
- Align workflows, priorities, and expectations across the team.
- Create tools, systems, and rhythms that streamline support for Partner outreach.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, mutual learning, and shared ownership of outcomes.
Sharpen How We Pitch and Price Our Work
- Lead the development of proposals and pricing strategies that reflect our distinct value.
- Streamline proposal creation with clear tools, templates, and rhythms.
- Align messaging across scopes, decks, and materials for clarity and consistency.
- Partner with leadership to design tiered pricing strategies that support sustainability.
Lead With Vision and Advance Firmwide Success
- Serve on the Leadership Team, helping set priorities and shape the firm’s direction.
- Connect dots across business development, client services, people, and operations.
- Surface field insights to guide decision-making and align internal priorities.
- Take shared responsibility for organizational clarity, performance, and culture.
